Story
Mum, Dad and the kid run errands across the suburb, one chapter at a time.
- Dim sum at Eastwood Plaza in the drizzle
- Beat the clock with a forgotten lunchbox
- A fragile parcel for CSIRO Marsfield
Cycle through Eastwood before the magpies get you.
Follow the wind-line to see where the magpie will dive, then swerve or block it with your bag. Watch for walkers, buses and red lights on the way.
Mum, Dad and the kid run errands across the suburb, one chapter at a time.
Explore the real map, then tap a start and a destination in the game and ride the streets between them.
The map follows the real suburb: Rowe St, the station, Hillview Rd, Agincourt Rd and Epping Rd. Shop names are made up; the places are real.
Red lanterns strung across the road, fruit crates on the footpath, roast duck in the window and a queue at the bubble tea shop. Uncles play xiangqi under the shade at Eastwood Plaza.
Neon signs for karaoke, fried chicken and barbecue, coloured lights over the street and smoke rising from the grill vents.
The old brick station, the footbridge, the bus stop out front, and Sydney double-deck trains rolling in and out. Ride under the rail bridge on Agincourt Rd.
Purple jacaranda petals on the road, red and yellow bins out on bin night, a Hills Hoist out the back and big gums where the magpies nest.
Glass towers along Epping Rd, the lake at Macquarie Uni and the crowds outside Macquarie Centre.
Finish a chapter, add your name, and your best score goes on the board. Score comes from lives left, swoops blocked and time.
Get on the boardMagpies swoop to guard their nests for a few weeks each spring. They are protected native birds. These habits help on a real ride.
Swooping happens near the same trees each year. Take another street for a few weeks if you can.
Get off and walk your bike through a swoop zone. Magpies swoop less at people on foot.
Wear your helmet and sunglasses. Keep moving calmly and never wave at or throw things at the bird.
I built Macpie Madness for everyone who has ducked under a magpie on the way to Rowe St. Want your café, your street or your park in the game? Tell me in the note when you support the game and I'll build it if I can.Paul Perth · developer
